The Top 5 Traits Of Every Gorgeous Bathroom

by Columbus Bath Design |July 6, 2018 |0 Comments | Full Bathroom Remodel, Making the Decision to Remodel Your Bathroom, One Day Bathroom Remodel, Tips for the Home | , , , , ,

Whether you are designing a new bathroom or remodeling an existing one, there are a few essential traits you should aim to incorporate. Keep these five things in mind when creating your perfect bathroom:

Superior Lighting

The importance of lighting is something that a lot of people mistakenly overlook when remodeling their bathrooms. Lighting can be natural or artificial and can give the room a whole different feel. Bright, clear lighting is also essential for things like makeup application and hair grooming. Evaluate your space’s lighting needs and choose lighting options accordingly.

A Color Scheme

Picking a color scheme before starting the design process will help narrow down your design options, which can often make decision making much easier. There are a multitude of things you must decide when designing a restroom, including what kind of bathtub/shower, sink, tile, and mirror to choose. Having an overarching color scheme prior to picking our decorations can make picking these items easier and can lead to an overall more cohesively designed space.

Function is Important

While it can be easy to design a bathroom based on trends and fads, the truth is that your focus should lie in functionality. You want to choose sturdy, durable bathroom items that will last.

For example, you may want a trendy bucket-style tub, but also want the functionality that comes with a shower. In some cases, you can have the best of both worlds by installing a bucket-style-bathtub with a shower head on the wall and a glass enclosure to make sure all the water stays contained.

Working with a design team is a great way to merge trendy and functional and will help you think outside the box to get the look you want while also meeting your needs.

Creative Storage

Utilizing different places in your bathroom for hidden storage is another great idea for your bathroom. Take advantage of places that wouldn’t normally be used; under the sink, the back of bathroom doors, etc. By adding a basket or container to these small spaces, you will increase your storage capacity and make your bathroom overall more functional. The key is to get creative!

Every Detail Matters

It may seem like small details do not matter when designing a beautiful restroom, however, the small details are often what bring a whole look together. Our team is invested in your design, all the way down to the hand towels that will be on display. Having a team that is so invested in the process is key to having a fun, exciting, and rewarding experience.

Ways to Brighten Up A Dark Bathroom

by Columbus Bath Design |June 22, 2018 |0 Comments | Bathroom Design, Bathroom Remodeling, Bathroom Remodeling Tips, Bathroom tips | , , , , , , , ,

Your bathroom can be a source of comfort in your home. It is a great place to sit down for a long, hot soak at the end of a long day. To keep the calming and inviting vibe of your bathroom, it is important to find the perfect lighting scheme. Fortunately, today’s homeowners have more options than ever before when it comes to turning any bathroom into a light-filled retreat. A few simple steps are all it takes to create an elegant and modern space:

Painting the Room

One of the best ways to brighten up the bath is by painting it. Paint is easy to use and easy to apply. Think about warm and sunny colors. Shades of yellow and peach are a good choice in a room with less light. Neutral shades like white and grey are always a good choice as well. White is easy to keep clean and exudes light. Make sure to choose paint that is easy to wipe clean. Good choices are high gloss and flat types of paint as they will add additional light.

Consider Your Lighting Options

Natural light is ideal whenever possible. If you have a window in the room, consider the use of frosted glass for privacy that still allows in light. As the sun goes down, artificial lighting is essential. Look for lighting that has a soft and warm feel. A single overhead feature is a good choice. This can be supplemented with other forms of lighting. A lit vanity is a useful thing to help occupants with morning rituals such as putting on makeup and attending to their hair.

The Right Accessories

Another area to think about are the right kind of accessories. Accessories offer yet more opportunity to bring in light. Use mirrors to add additional color and make the room seem bigger. Other surfaces can also be mirrored as well. Think about using a garbage pail in the room along with large metal cabinet fixtures. A set of shiny metal shelving is an ideal option that allows for practical storage. Keep stored linens and shower curtains to lighter colors such as white or pastel shades for an even brighter feel.

Flooring Possibilities

Flooring is another area that can be used bring in more light. Marble flooring is easy to clean and comes in shades of warm white and brown. Marble can also be used for the sink and the shower and bath area. Tiles are another excellent bath flooring choice. Tiles will not be harmed by water or humidity. Consider using tiles in shades of white or lighter colors along the floor and along the walls. Add personality with the use of a custom-made mosaic.

Overall, careful consideration of your bath decor scheme can yield pleasingly warm results. The experts at Columbus Bath Design can help perfect your lighting scheme and more. Contact us today to make your dream bathroom a reality.

Organization And Storage Ideas for Small Bathrooms

by Columbus Bath Design |June 8, 2018 |1 Comments | Bathroom Accessories, Bathroom Design, Bathroom Remodeling Tips, Bathroom tips, homeowners | , , , , , , , ,

A small bathroom presents special challenges when it comes to storage. You need to find a place for small things like toilet paper, makeup, and razors while offering enough room for towels and other bulky items. Fortunately, with a few simple organizational tricks, you can find ways to fit those items into even the smallest bathrooms.

Shelving

Place a shelf right above the sink. You have a few items that you use at least once a day. Things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes, razors, tweezers, etc. A small shelf above the sink and below the mirror is a perfect place to store these commonly used items.

Add a cabinet or shelves above the toilet. If there is one space that you need to use in a bathroom, it is the area above the toilet. Half the wall from the top of the toilet to the ceiling is available for a cabinet, open shelves, or towel racks.

Replace a mirror with one that has shelves included. A few decades ago, medicine cabinets were standard in most homes. These sturdy mirrors had shelves behind a mirrored door. Now, many homes have flat mirrors. The good news is that you can replace these flat mirrors with modern stylish ones that include the shelving.

Get Creative!

Use spice racks and hanging baskets. The wall space around your sink and tub is ideal for storing smaller items, so they are handy to find, but not cluttering the sink or tub surround. Spice racks and hanging baskets allow you to maximize your vertical storage and keep your space organized.

Put hooks on the wall. Another way to maximize your vertical storage is with hooks. Towels, brushes, robes, and bags are just a few things you can hang off a hook. With removable plastic hooks available, no surface is off limits for these handy items.

Utilize All Of Your Space

Don’t forget the back of the door. Walk into your bathroom and close the door. Look at the back of the door. There is a major blank slate available there. Hooks, racks and hanging baskets will give you the stockpile space you need.

Use the area above the door. If you look up above your bathroom door, you will see a dead space, perfect for storing extra towels and toilet paper. A simple open shelf is easy to install and will get things up and out of the way. You can go as plain or as fancy as you want with the shelf and hardware choice.

Maximize your under sink cache. If you have a sink cabinet, you need to ensure you are using all the space available. Plastic drawers and adjustable shelves can give you precious space for seldom-used items that you still need to access on occasion.

These simple organization ideas will help you maximize your bathroom potential. If your small bathroom just still isn’t doing the trick, the experts at Columbus Bath Design can help you remodel a brand new bathroom. Give us a call today!

Spring Cleaning Tips from Columbus Bath Design

Can A Bathroom Be Spring Cleaned? You Bet!

Spring cleaning usually involves clearing closets, cabinets, and storage areas on unwanted clutter. We wash windows, refinish floors, and prep the windows and doors for warm weather. What about the bathroom? Some bathrooms have no windows, which means mold and mildew growing over the long winter. Because of this, it is important to deep clean bathrooms as well!

Supplies

Spring Cleaning Tips

Just working with a can of scrubbing bubbles and a sponge might not cut it. Here are the supplies we recommend you pick up for this endeavor:

  • Microfiber cloths
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Seventh Generation cleaning liquids (these are all natural with no harmful chemicals)
  • Dusting cloths
  • Swiffer mop or microfiber mop
  • Lemon juice
  • Olive oil or coconut oil
  • Spray bottle with water

Cabinets

Many bathrooms have wooden cabinets. To dust and clean them, mix in a small jar one half cup lemon juice to two cups olive or coconut oil. Shake until well mixed, then dust your wood cabinets. It’s a natural alternative to cleaning chemicals and will make the wood glow.

Glass and Mirrors

Some people mix dish liquid with vinegar and water to wash glass and mirrors. However, the dish liquid isn’t really necessary. Lemon juice or vinegar and water will clean most everything.

Close the glass shower door after you’ve turned on the hot water. Allow the steam to build up, and then shut the shower off. On the glass shower walls, apply a paste of baking soda and vinegar. Let sit for a few minutes, then wipe off. Spray with water. Wipe down with microfiber cloths to prevent mildew.

Floor and Wall Tiles

Close the shower door again with hot water running for steam. Use either the Seventh Generation cleaners or a mixture of vinegar, lemon, and water. Apply the cleaner to the tile walls and floors, then close the door. In a few minutes, shut off the shower. With a Swiffer or a microfiber mop, remove the moisture from the ceiling.

Wipe off the tile walls and floors. If not all dirt was removed from the grout, apply a paste of vinegar and baking soda. Scrub with a toothbrush. If it still won’t come clean, then a professional formula should be applied.

Tips For Deep Cleaning the Bathroom

Now the windows, mirrors, walls and floors are clean, it’s time to deep clean the sink and toilet. One of the best tips we’ve seen for cleaning the toilet and sink is to sprinkle in baking soda. After a few minutes, pour in vinegar. It will sizzle and bubble. When it’s finished bubbling, rinse it. It will shine like new!

Faucets and Shower Heads

Next you’ll need plastic sandwich baggies and rubber bands. In the baggie, mix vinegar, baking soda, and water. Wrap the faucets and shower head with the baggie. Let them sit for a couple of hours or overnight. Then, remove them and wipe them down. Your faucets and shower head will shine!

These simple tips and tricks should be all the cleaning you need to make your bathroom shine like new. If your bathroom needs more than just a little freshening up this spring season, give Columbus Bath Design a call to get started on your dream bathroom!

When it comes to the priority of home improvement projects, the bathroom runs a pretty close second to the kitchen, and there is a plurality of reasons behind why homeowners choose to take on a bathroom remodel. It could be to modernize an outdated design, make it more energy efficient, or just make it their own. A remodeled bathroom not only adds to the aesthetics of your home but also to its resale value. Renovating your bathroom can add upwards of $10,000 to your home’s resale value, making it a great long-term investment.

Improving Efficiency

Aside from increasing the resale value and improving aesthetics, many homeowners are also seeking ways to improve energy efficiency in their homes. In doing so, they are also beautifying their space, essentially killing two birds with one stone.

Many homeowners have turned to energy-saving lighting fixtures to effectively and efficiently light this space in their homes. We recommend investing in high-efficiency LED lighting instead of using traditional bulbs. Another change you can make is turning to energy-saving fans for ventilation purposes. These fans are not only quieter but are also far more efficient than average fans, saving you money.

Updating Bathroom Can Save You Money

So, other than lighting, what are some of the more common upgrades? Well, believe it or not, it’s countertops; the highly sought-after granite and quartz countertops commonly used in kitchens are becoming a must-have for today’s modern bathroom. Also, when it comes to flooring, as well as walls, many homeowners are choosing porcelain, with many citing the material’s aesthetics as the basis for their choice.

Bathrooms that are designed with practical usage in mind are becoming more common as well. For example, many people are taking built-in bathtubs out to create a combo bathtub/shower wet room, that is handicap accessible. Creating more storage space by adding shelves, cupboards, baskets, and more is becoming common, too. This can increase a home’s resale value by catering to many different types of buyers and making the bathroom easy to use.

Choosing a Contractor

Once you’ve decided on the type of upgrades you would like to make; your next step will be to choose a quality contractor. As with any home improvement project, you will want to find a licensed contractor and have a discussion about labor cost, material cost, and timeframe for completion. Finding a high-quality contractor or service provider can save you money by doing everything right the first time and ensuring your improvements last for years.

As with any major home improvement project, you’re encouraged to get a written estimate and do some comparison shopping to get the best deal possible. Your home is your biggest investment, and you will want to get the most out of your remodeling dollars.

We are committed to giving our clients amazing service and high quality products at an affordable price. Call us today to get started on your next project and increase your home’s value!

Planning a One-Day Remodel While Mom is Away

by Columbus Bath Design |May 4, 2018 |0 Comments | Bathroom Design, Bathroom Maintenance, Bathroom Remodeling, Bathroom Remodeling Cost, Bathroom Remodeling Materials, Bathroom Remodeling Tips, Bathroom tips, Bathtub Conversions, homeowners, One Day Bathroom Remodel, Tips for the Home | , , , , , , , , , , ,

Trying to surprise your mom is a tough proposition–especially when you’re looking at a remodeling project. You know that she’ll be quickly frustrated by a half-done room that’s difficult or impossible to use, so surprising her while she’s away is one of the most effective ways to get that remodeling project taken care of. If you’re planning a one-day remodeling project, however, make sure that you’re appropriately prepared for the process.

Step One: Create a PlanPlanning a One-Day Remodel While Mom is Away

If you’re going to finish your remodeling project in a day, you need to know exactly what you want to do. Work closely with your contractor as you discuss details like color scheme, how much remodeling you really need to do, and other key attributes of the project. The better prepared you are, the more likely you’ll be able to complete your project effectively.

Step Two: Let Your Contractor Evaluate the Space

There’s nothing worse than diving in with a project that’s supposed to take a single day, only to find significant problems with your home that will lead to more difficulty. Bring your contractor in when Mom’s not home and let them take a look at the space. They may be able to predict issues like mold behind the walls, uneven surfaces, or tile problems before they start the project, allowing you to assess whether or not you can really complete that project in a day.

Step Three: Prioritize

When you’re working on a remodeling project, things often fail to go exactly according to plan. Those tiles you just had to have for the bathroom walls will fail to stick, or the vanity will come apart as you’re trying to take it out, or you’ll discover that an unexpectedly wet day makes it take twice as long as usual for the paint to dry. By creating a priority list, you’ll be able to decide what pieces of the project can wait until another day if you need to finish up fast.

Step Four: Prepare

In order to truly remodel a space in a single day, you need to be prepared. All of the items you need should be purchased ahead of time, from new mirrors to towel bars. The last thing you need to do is spend your day running back and forth to your local store. Make sure that you’ve chosen materials that work well together and that will effectively fit into your space in order to streamline the remodeling process.

Step Five: Stick With It

A one-day remodeling project is not the time to decide that you want to turn your original ideas upside down. Instead, make sure that you’re willing to live with your original plan–and more importantly, that Mom will be! Last-minute changes can extend the time necessary to complete the project, leaving you with a half-finished room when Mom gets home.

Choosing the right contractor is critical to ensuring a smooth remodeling project, especially if you want to do it in a single day. Carefully preparing and letting the contractor know what you’re doing, however, will ensure a smooth process that will result in a great surprise when Mom comes home.

If you’re tired of the look in an outdated bathroom, you might be considering a remodel. Whether it’s a master bath, a guest bath, or a powder room, a makeover is easier than you may think. You can actually refresh the space in just a few hours with a one-day professional remodel. Here are the biggest benefits of choosing a one-day bathroom remodel

benefits one-day bathroom remodelSame-Day Convenience

One reason why many homeowners put off remodeling projects is that they don’t want to deal with the inconvenience. This is especially true with bathroom renovations because it can be uncomfortable to have a bathroom out of commission for days or weeks at a time. In some homes, it may not even be an option to go without a bathroom.

With a professional remodel done in a day, you won’t have to worry about your bathroom being out of order for more than a few hours. The result will be a refreshed, updated room with all of the elements that you choose.

Affordable Luxury

Taking on a remodel of the bathroom without a plan can quickly become expensive. Having it done in one day is an affordable option since the project won’t be long and drawn out. You’ll know what you’re having installed ahead of time, and you’ll know how much it’s going to cost.

Taking days or weeks to complete a remodel can be quite costly, especially if you haven’t done your homework about the materials and labor costs. You can also end up choosing items that are out of your budget. This can delay the completion of your renovation, as you wait to have the money to actually get the job done. If you want to have an efficient and affordable bathroom makeover to bring it up to date or deal with mold and mildew issues, choosing the same day option is your best bet.

A Smart Investment

Homeowners seeking to refresh one of the most important spaces in the home will find that a bathroom remodel is a smart investment. Whether you’re planning to sell in the future, or are planning to stay in your home, having a beautiful bathroom that you love will be a big benefit. A modern, clean, and well-maintained bath is an excellent return on investment.

How Do I Create a Luxurious Guest Bathroom?

Wooden BathroomMany homes have guest bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms. However, because this room is not continuously used, it can quickly become dull and outdated. Fortunately, it is not as difficult as it may seem to transform a lackluster guest bathroom into a luxurious, welcoming space for house guests. The suggestions offered below will make this project a bit less daunting:

Vessel Sinks and Spa Showers

To create a modern, luxurious guest bath, consider the addition of a vessel sink or vanity, and a spa shower. Vanities made from bamboo or natural wood are currently popular among many homeowners. A spa shower featuring a rainforest shower head is particularly luxurious and will impress any guest. The spa shower and vessel sink will add comfort and style, and the combination will create an overall welcoming presence in the room.

Skylights

Natural light is lacking in a lot of bathrooms, as windows in a bathroom create privacy concerns. However, if the guest bathroom is located on the home’s second floor, a skylight can easily solve this problem, as well as add a luxurious touch to the room. Skylights also instantly modernize a room’s appearance, while providing extra light as an additional benefit.

Suspended Fixtures

Suspended fixtures are accessories that can update the look of any room, particularly a bathroom. For instance, if your goal is a luxurious and unique guest bath, a toilet and sink can be affixed to the wall in such a way that they appear suspended in midair. Suspended shelves and frameless glass shower doors could also give the room a contemporary look.

Framed Mirrors

Mirrors have become bathroom essentials. They are both decorative and practical. Framed mirrors are a great option when creating a luxurious bathroom, and the styles and designs available are limitless.

Fresh Paint

Brightening the room with a fresh coat of paint, such as today’s popular pastel shades, instantly breathes new life into the room. This is a simple way to change the feel of the room and set the stage for new décor.

Popular Accessories

Accessories are also important to update. Replacing old, dull fixtures with new, modern ones is a great place to start. If you are not sure where to start, items with gold finishes are currently popular, as are fixtures with colored enamel coatings. Natural wood and live edge accents are also popular.

Hotel-style towel racks are also making a splash this season. Because these towel racks are stackable and hold multiple towels, they also save space, which makes them a good choice for small guest bathrooms.

Due to their infrequent use, guest bedrooms and bathrooms are frequently overlooked. However, when the time comes to update your home’s guest bathroom, the tips mentioned above will ensure luxurious results that will provide welcoming comfort to every guest. Your budget may be holding you back, but with proper planning, you can save what you need to give your bathroom a fresh look. Here are some tips for saving money so you can afford a beautiful new bathroom in 2018:

Cut Back on Expenses

One of the first things you need to do is look at the areas where you can cut back and spend less. Take an honest look at your weekly and monthly expenses, and see where you can make cuts. By reducing your expenses, you will have more leftover to put into your savings.

Create a Dedicated Savings Fund

In order to ensure your savings won’t be spent on other things, you should create a dedicated savings fund. You may want to open a new account with your bank that is connected to your checking account. This will allow you to easily transfer money to save for the project. You’ll be able to watch the savings build up over time, and keep better track of your progress.

Prioritize Spending

If a home renovation project is a priority for you, then you will need to reduce your spending on other things. Make a list of your top priorities and allocate money toward them. A bathroom remodel is an excellent priority because it will add value to your home and give you an updated space to use and enjoy every day.

Make a Budget

If you don’t already have a budget, now would be a great time to make one. A budget allows you to see your monthly expenses and to track where your money is being spent. You can also determine how much money you would like to spend on a new bathroom, and inhibits you to save more since you can easily identify the categories where costs can be reduced.

Plan the Project

Proper planning is one of the keys to keeping the costs of a remodel in check. As you start saving for a new bathroom, you can begin to plan it out. Think about what you would like to have in the space and what elements may need to be replaced. How to Make Your Bathroom Compliment Your Home’s Decor

by Columbus Bath Design |November 17, 2017 |0 Comments | Bathroom Accessories, Bathroom Design, Bathroom Remodeling, Bathroom tips, Columbus Bath Design News, Full Bathroom Remodel, homeowners, Making the Decision to Remodel Your Bathroom, Tips for the Home | , , , , ,

luxury-bath-ohio-bathroom-decorIf you aren’t carrying your design sense and decorating skills into the bathroom, you’re missing an opportunity to showcase your style. It’s a small space that can make a statement, enhancing the overall look of the rest of the interior. When doing a remodeling project in the bathroom, keep these tips in mind on how to make space compliment your home decor:

Color Scheme

You don’t have to match each room in order to get a great look, but the colors that you choose for the walls should flow together. Select a color scheme for the bathroom that doesn’t clash with the surrounding rooms, but complements them. You can add more specific details with other colors, such as with the shower curtain and the linens. Keep the wall colors similar in tone to the rooms closest to the bathroom.

Don’t be Afraid to Decorate

Don’t be afraid to use decor items in your bathroom. You aren’t limited to functional items and wall art when it comes to decorating. If you have to shelve, add a few little touches to them that are purely decorative. When space is limited, you may have to limit the amount of decor you can use. Add your chosen decorations to the vanity, window sill, and other surfaces. You could also include fresh flowers and greenery, as well. This will give the room a natural, airy appeal. Simple, stylish pieces that are similar to what you’re displaying in other rooms are ideal.

Give It Personality

When the rest of your home is beautifully decorated, don’t leave the bathroom out. Give it personality with carefully chosen details, colors, and textures. The bathroom, whether it’s a master bath or a powder room, is a blank canvas that you can dress up in your personal style to compliment and accent the interior design of your whole home.
